Three researchers from the Department of Hematology have received grants from KWF Kankerbestrijding.
Els Mansell will conduct research into modulation of mitochondrial metabolism of blood stem cells to reduce the age-related risk of cancer and improve cancer therapy.
Emma de Pater will investigate the role of mutant GATA2 in the development of acute leukemia (AML). GATA2 is a transcription factor that regulates the expression of many genes. GATA2 is mutated in 1 to 4 percent of AML cases.
Ruud Delwel will find out how good genes can become bad. He focuses specifically on a special type of epigenetic dysregulation in leukemia, caused by so-called oncogenic super-enhancers.
